About Shannon
From October 2018 to October 2023, I had the distinct privilege of serving our community as an appointed Hearing Commissioner and Alternate Judge with the Las Vegas Municipal Court. In 2022, I was appointed Interim Municipal Court Judge in Department 6, a role I held with dedication for five months. Throughout my tenure with the court, I initiated and oversaw two transformative programs: Fresh Start Traffic and Fresh Start Specialty Court. These innovative programs were designed to provide crucial support to individuals facing traffic citations or misdemeanor cases who were also experiencing homelessness. Our mission was clear: connect them with the resources needed to break down the barriers that kept them homeless. The results were remarkable, as participants achieved stable housing, received necessary treatment, secured steady income, and rejoined our community as contributing members.
A Lifetime of Service
I humbly seek your support and vote for the position of Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge, Department 5, so that I may continue my commitment to serving our community. Prior to my role as a Hearing Commissioner, I practiced law in various civil areas, including complex personal injury, legal malpractice defense, employment defense, and estate planning. With my law license dating back to 2001, I’ve had the privilege of working across a broad spectrum of legal fields and engaging in volunteer work at both the community and national levels. I earned my J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, graduating with distinction and concentrating in Intellectual Property and International Law. While I maintain an active law license in Nevada, I am inactive in California.
Professional Associations
I am a proud member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers (APRL), where I’ve been actively involved since 2008. Over the years, I’ve served on numerous committees and had the honor of holding all Officer positions during my tenure on the Board of Directors from August 2013 to August 2022. Additionally, I contributed my expertise as a member of the National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being for several years. From 2017 to 2019, I had the privilege of serving on the State Bar of Nevada Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee.
Community Engagement
My dedication extends beyond my legal career, as I’ve been deeply involved in various community initiatives. Notably, I’ve been a dedicated member of Scouts BSA, serving as Pack Committee Member since 2022, and taking on the role of Troop Committee Chair since April 2023. I’ve also had the pleasure of serving as a Merit Badge Counselor for several merit badges. Furthermore, my commitment to educating our community about the law led me to serve with Project REAL (Relevant Education About the Law) from 2008 to 2014. During my time with the organization, I served as the President of the Board from 2009 to June 2014. I’ve also volunteered at special events with Special Olympics of Southern Nevada and co-founded the First-Year Attorney/Student Mentoring Program at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law in 2008, participating every year of the program until 2013.
